OVTOKO is a human ovarian clear cell adenocarcinoma cell line established from the metastatic tumor of a 78-year-old female who had received CPA chemotherapy. These cells are negative for hormones estrogen (ER) and progesterone (PR) receptors, and tumor-associated antigens (CA19-9, CA125, and TPA) are not detected in OVTOKO cultures. OVTOKO cells express an evaluated level of epidermal growth factor (EGF). When transplanted into mice, OVTOKO cells are capable of forming tumors subcutaneously and in the abdominal cavity, and intraperitoneal injection results in peritoneal spread and distant metastasis. OVTOKO cell line provides a significant experimental cell models to investigate the tumorigenesis and malignant progression of human ovarian clear cell adenocarcinoma.
