HEL-100 is a human cell line established from the breast milk of a healthy female donor with no family history of breast cancer. Although derived from the non-cancerous tissue, HEL-100 cells exhibit several features indicative of transformation. By the 7th passage, karyotype analysis revealed chromosomal abnormalities. Ultrastructural examination via electron microscopy showed the presence of microfilaments, tension fibrils, and desmosomes. It showed the integration of SV40 viral genes into the genome in southern blot analysis.
