Glucose is used as a supplement of growth media, supporting extra energy for cell growth and division. Some primary cells may perform better in low glucose; some cancer cell lines and immortalized cell lines may like high glucose environment. Glucose can also be added to mimic in vivo environment of normal blood glucose level, or study metabolism, aging, oxidative stress, or insulin signaling of cells at a specific glucose level.
