MDA-MB-231 is a triple-negative (ER-, PR-, HER-) breast cancer (TNBC) cell line, derived from the pleural effusion of a 51-year-old woman. This cell line is highly aggressive, invasive, poorly differentiated and tumorigenic in nude mice. MDA-MB-231 expresses epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor, transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-α) receptor, and WNT7B gene.
