MDA-MB-231 is a triple-negative (ER<sup>-</sup>, PR<sup>-</sup>, HER<sup>-</sup>) breast cancer (TNBC) cell line, derived from the pleural effusion of a 51-year-old woman. This cell line is highly aggressive, invasive, poorly differentiated and tumorigenic in nude mice.
